The WVSCA Rising Star Award honors a new school counselor who:

demonstrates exceptional competence in the school counseling profession;

has made significant contributions to their school community and/or the profession;
-
builds strong, positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues; and
-
exhibits clear potential for leadership.
BENEFITS
The Rising Star will be recognized at our Annual Conference. Social media, email announcements, and media releases will be provided by the WVSCA.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the Rising Star Award, a nominee must:
- be employed as a full-time school counselor in the state of West Virginia;
- have no more than three years of full-time experience working as a school counselor in the state of West Virginia as of August 1, 2025; and
- be a current member of the WVSCA.
PROCESS
To move forward as a candidate for the Rising Star Award, an individual must:
- be nominated by 11:59pm on September 30;
- meet all eligibility criteria; and
- complete the Rising Star Application by October 31.
